Exhibition on view:

By:
LACMA x Snapchat
Location:
Various locations throughout Los Angeles County
Monumental Perspectives is a wonderful initiative by LACMA in partnership with Snapchat — they bring together artists and technologists to create augmented reality monuments that explore just some of the histories of Los Angeles communities in an effort to highlight perspectives from across the region.
Created in consultation with community leaders and historians, the third cohort of artists include Victoria Fu, Yassi Mazandi, Rashaad Newsome, Ruben Ortiz Torres, and Alison Saar. The artists use the lens of collective ancestral memory to examine the individual and communal legacies we leave today.
Visitors can experience the augmented reality monuments at site-specific locations across Los Angeles including LACMA, Lincoln Park, Los Angeles State Historic Park, Santa Monica, and Exposition Park. The monuments can also be experienced by anyone around the world on Snapchat by searching in Lens Explorer or scanning the QR codes on their website.
There are a total of 13 monuments placed throughout Los Angeles, each activated over several years in series of three collections — visit the AR monuments and send us pictures!
GLOBAL MODE > at MoMI, NYC
Exhibition on view:
Oct 20, 2023 — Feb 12, 2024
Artist:
Eva Davidova
Location:
Museum of the Moving Image
36-01 35 Ave
Astoria
Queens, NY
Eva Davidova’s installation at New York City’s Museum of the Moving Image called GLOBAL MODE > is located at the Schlosser Media Wall. Her work playfully incorporates both ancient myth and contemporary reality, highlighting the theme of interdependent responsibility in the wake of ecological disaster.
“Each section embraces the rich and sometimes tumultuous interplay of politics, history, and climate change, encouraging reflection on our interconnected responsibilities in an era marked by urgent biological and environmental challenges.
Visitors are connected to animal avatars through the movement of their own bodies, creating a direct effect on the unfolding stories across the Media Wall. Moving away from the binary of winning or losing, the artwork allows for a more nuanced contemplation on the relationship between self and community.” — excerpt from the press release
Eva Davidova is an interdisciplinary artist from Bulgaria who works primarily with digital media. Through her work, she explores the political implications of technology, incorporating performative elements rooted in the absurd to question the things we take for granted. Often “misusing” technology deliberately, Davidova seeks to disrupt its easy acceptance and the prevalent emotional manipulation enacted through both physical and informational architecture.
Hung Keung: Digital Media Art Installation at Alisan Fine Arts
Exhibition on view:
October 28 – December 30, 2023
Artist:
Hung Keung
Location:
Alisan Fine Arts
2305 Hing Wai Centre
7 Tin Wan Praya Road,
Aberdeen, Hong Kong
Hung Keung’s first solo exhibition, Digital Media Art Installation, with Alisan Fine Arts is open to public viewing at their Aberdeen Gallery until the end of this year! The exhibition showcases Hung’s latest works from three of his iconic creation, including two groups with flowers and Chinese characters as the main themes - the multi-channel video "Four Seasons: Extended Time Series" and the vibrant digital moving images "Grain Rain Series".
Hung Keung is a renowned digital media installation artist from Hong Kong and grantee of Asian Cultural Council Award (2005). He is known for his interactive installations that combine film, video, and digital new media with themes from Chinese classical philosophy, art, and literature.
“The imagery depicts mist, flowers, charcoal, and rice paper transitioning from vibrancy to decay through ink variations. The dancing Chinese characters respond to these subtle changes, suggesting the relationship between the nature and the passage of time. V.1 of "Four Seasons” has been collected by Hong Kong Museum of Art.
Another significant artwork on display is the meditative digital video installation "Purifying and Integrating". Hung Keung captures the image of a seated Buddha ink painting using a high-speed digital camera, intertwining it with shadows, light, and technology to create a unique sense of space and ambiguity. Still images gained the finalist of Sovereign Asian Art Prize, 2018.” — excerpt from the press release
