ARTECHOUSE’s Blooming Wonders: A Celebration of Spring
By Lily Essilfie
ARTECHOUSE is a powerhouse for immersive storytelling and transcendent experiential art. Their dedication to groundbreaking digital expressions has produced many phenomenal, award-winning works. To name a few, Peak, Bloom, Submerge, and Life of a Neuron are some of their trailblazing creations.
Since their founding in 2015, ARTECHOUSE has opened four locations. Fortunately for me, I had the pleasure of attending ARTECHOUSE NYC’s launch of their new exhibit, BLOOMING WONDERS: A Celebration of Spring. This exhibit was the perfect way to welcome in and embrace the newness of Springtime.
BLOOMING WONDERS
Close your eyes and picture Spring.
What does it look like?
What does it sound like?
How does it make you feel?
Blooming Wonders explores these exact questions. It explores the beauty and movement of Spring while capturing the essence of change through a vibrant multimedia wonderland.
Most of the works, if not all, prompted me to be more conscious of the ecological mystique surrounding me, both inside and outside the exhibition. There were so many elements that drew me in and captivated my attention. I love that there was a photo booth for guests to commemorate their experience. (Guests can also choose their own theme for their photos)
The artistry brought me out of my body and transported me into a plane filled with floral enchantment. I was overcome with euphoric awe as I watched my own being become a part of some of the exhibited works. The immersive botany of this exhibit followed me, even to the bar.

XR Bar
The extended Reality (XR) Bar features thoughtfully fashioned cocktails and mocktails. These are not like any regular drink; for one, they are delicious. And two, XR Bar encompasses the beauty and ever-changing vitality of spring. I had the opportunity to try Timeless Butterfly, which was infused with jasmine and chamomile. I stirred the beautiful layered colors of my drink, and it alchemized into a cohesive embodiment of the incoming season.
Using the ARTECHOUSE XR mobile App, guests can watch art bloom just from their phones as 2D transforms into 3D. This added layer keeps people present in this experience. It does not begin and end in one place; Blooming Wonders provides a space for continuous exploration.

How does ARTECHOUSE select artists to work with?
For our exhibition, artists are curated based on either the subject matter or our exhibition partners. So one thing that is really unique about ARTECHOUSE is that we have a full studio team that works with immersive and interactive media as well.
We will partner with artists who are at varying levels. Some artists will come to us and be like, “Look, I have this really cool exhibition piece, but there are so few places that work with immersive media, so let’s work together to bring this piece to life.” We were the US debut for Refik Anadol. We have worked with other artists in that capacity to bring their work to a stage, acting as a platform.
Then we work in a capacity with other artists who may be like, “Okay, I am very familiar with crafting animations for web experiences or experiences on social media, so how can we adapt that style to an immersive scale?” We will work with them on their existing style and assets to broaden that to the specific medium.
We look for artists who are doing something unique or have a specific process that has not been highlighted enough. I think that is what brings this fresh feeling to ARTECHOUSE; we are always showcasing something different. What you see here one day, even here for example, with Blooming Wonders, what you see here at noon is completely different from what you see coming in at 7 pm.
We try our best to connect audiences to art, and so we work with artists who are passionate about that as well. It is incredible seeing what people come up with. Just being able to experience that at this scale—you know, you can’t do this just by scrolling on social media.
What is the difference between the Exhibition during the day and at night?
The Daytime exhibition Blooming Wonders is what we are seeing right now, featuring a 22-minute experience that is a celebration of Spring. And this is the only immersion gallery exhibition on view. If you are looking for something that is just that—a fun, floral escape, this is definitely the exhibition you want to come see here.
But—then SUBMERGE BEYOND THE RENDER is on view during the evenings, and that exhibition was created in partnership with the Render Network. If you are not familiar with that organization, basically, they give artists tools to create works that are typically reserved for really ginormous studios.
So an artist would normally have to pay Amazon money, or you know, work at Pixar, but with the Render Network, they are able to create things at such a high fidelity in such a fraction of the time, and also with less resources, which is also amazing.
We work with 14 artists, and in that exhibition, each artist presented a 3-minute exhibition piece. It’s such an exploration of different styles and aesthetics. We have one experience that is just a surreal water dreamscape, and then, there’s a face that just emerges–and you would never see this in real life. This is awesome. We have another exhibition piece that is just like stepping into an anime, and that is by two Emmy Award-winning creators who adapted it for ARTECHOUSE.
We also have some immersive visuals created by David Ariew, who is a really fantastic visual artist and one of Zedd’s visual designers, so it has that concert-EDM feel. Those are the overall visual differences in the EMERGING gallery; our auxiliary installations remain the same, depending on when you come.
What was the thought process of connecting Spring with this Exhibition?
That brings us actually to our DC location, where ARTECHOUSE started. DC has a very rich cherry blossom tradition, and we have paid homage to that every year with a floral or cherry blossom-themed exhibition. And as we expanded ARTECHOUSE locations from New York to Houston. We are continuing that tradition.
I think it is even more special in New York to have this celebration of Spring because we don’t have this many opportunities to step inside actual florals. You know, it’s Spring everlasting. These flowers will always be here, and the room will always be at a very pleasant and comfortable temperature, which is also nice because it is freezing out there.
