Artist Interview: Pujarini Ghosh

Pujarini Ghosh is a multidisciplinary creative technologist based in Brooklyn, New York. Blending illustrations, digital visuals, interactive installations, augmented reality, and editorial styling, her work challenges viewer perceptions and invites reflection. Drawing inspiration from technology, social constructs, and cultural exchanges, Pujarini explores themes of identity and our evolving relationship with the digital world. Her immersive, sensory-driven pieces aim to bridge the gap between various art forms, creating thought-provoking experiences.

Pujarini’s journey began in fashion and editorial styling, where she discovered the power of storytelling through photography and set design. Her curiosity soon led her to experiment with digital illustrations and interactive media, eventually pursuing a Master's in Interactive Arts in New York. There, she delved into creative coding, augmented reality, and sensor-based experiences — bringing stories to life through physical interaction.

From daily observations to the impact of internet culture, Pujarini continues to explore how digital spaces shape our sense of self. Minimalism, color theory, and the interplay of technology and design are central to her work, reflecting her international experiences and ever-evolving artistic perspective.

We asked Pujarini about her art, creative process, and inspirations.

Can you tell us about your background as a digital artist? How did you get started in this field?

I’ve always been fascinated by the mix of art, technology, and storytelling. I began my journey studying fashion and working in editorial styling, where I learned how photography, set design, and styling can tell a story. My curiosity soon led me to experiment with digital illustrations, collages, and interactive media. Eventually, I pursued a Master’s in Interactive Arts in New York, where I dove deeper into creative coding, augmented reality, and sensor-based experiences that bring storytelling to life through physical experiences.

You and I

What inspires your art? Are there any particular themes or subjects that you enjoy exploring through your artwork?

I am inspired by daily observations, cultural exchanges, and the evolution of technology, especially social media and internet culture. My work often explores how digital spaces influence our sense of self and how they affect our perceptions. I also draw on my experiences living and traveling across the world. Themes like identity, minimalism, color palettes, and the interplay between visual design and technology all find their way into my projects.

Seen Unseen

You’ve worked across different industries and disciplines — how has that shaped your artistic perspective?

Working in fashion taught me about the importance of aesthetics, color, and storytelling. My background in editorial styling still shapes how I set up visuals. At the same time, working with digital media and technology pushes me to experiment with new mediums.I love blending the physical and digital to create a world that feels both immersive and personal—a space where I can share my own point of view.

Pop my bubble

What is an event which you consider a milestone in your digital art career?

One milestone would definitely be creating “POP MY BUBBLE,” an immersive augmented reality experience. It began as part of my thesis research and grew into a fully realized interactive installation. The project explores the concept of filter bubbles, how algorithms shape our online experiences—and invites audiences to step into my “bubble” and pop it by sharing their own recommendations. It was incredibly rewarding to see people interact with my work and having to present this at the TouchIn event in New York last summer. (AMONG ALL MY FELLOW TOUCHDESIGNER NERDS)

Much of your work explores identity in the digital age. How do you see technology shaping the way we see ourselves?

I believe technology shapes our identity in many ways. On one side, algorithms and filter bubbles can limit our view and keep us stuck in our own little worlds. My work is about breaking those barriers, creating social experiences that blend the physical and digital in a real, tactile way. I want to build spaces where communities come together, exchange ideas, and connect on a deeper level, moving beyond what the algorithms dictate.

Pop my bubble

What are some emerging technologies or trends that you’re excited to experiment with in your future work?

I am really excited about generative AI because it opens up new ways to create art. I want to develop digital interactive experiences that mix generative AI with personalized elements, building a narrative centered on what's happening in internet culture. My theme explores how the online world shapes our stories and influences our everyday lives.

Is AI Biased?

If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you make together?

I’d love to collaborate with Henri Matisse and make interactive art sculptures of his “The Cut-outs” piece. I am highly inspired by his work of art.

What is a fun fact about you?

I can eat an entire cake by myself!

What else fills your time when you’re not creating art?

When I am not thinking about new art projects, I love baking, walking around new neighborhoods and hunting for cocktail bars in New York.

What is a dream project you’d like to make one day?

To collaborate on a data sculpture with Refik Anadol.
